Signs That You Need Heating Repairs

girl-sitting-by-the-fireFresno may not be the hottest spot in all of California, but before long we will back to nice, warm temperatures. Don’t let your anticipation for the coming warmer weather lull you into a false sense of security with your heating system in Fresno, CA, though. You are going to need it for a while longer, and you cannot simply ignore signs of trouble with it just because things will be heating up before long.

We want to give you a few tips for spotting the signs that you need heating repairs in this blog. Keep them in mind, and remember that no problem is “minor” enough to ignore. Even those issues that seem minor, even this close to the end of the heating season, can do real damage. Contact us at the first sign of trouble.

What to Look For

Now, nobody really wants to run into trouble with their home heating systems. If you do, however, it’s at least beneficial to see some warning signs that something has gone wrong. It may not be the greatest of silver linings, but the fact is that your heater will probably exhibit symptoms of some kind when something goes wrong. They may include any of the following.

  • Increased heating costs. The colder it is, obviously, the more that you are likely going to be paying to heat your home. After all, you’ll be running the heater more, right? However, if you see a spike in how much it costs to heat your home that you really cannot just explain away, then a problem of some sort may be negatively affecting your heater’s energy efficiency levels. Contact us if you are perplexed by a surge in heating costs.
  • Reduced heating output. If your heater used to heat your entire home evenly and effectively, but now is struggling to do so, it is certainly possible that it is experiencing an operational problem of some kind. Your heater does not need to be blowing cold air in order for something to be wrong — though that in and of itself is a pretty sure sign of trouble.
  • Short cycling. If you start to notice that your heater is turning on, running only very briefly, and is then shutting back down, it is short cycling. Any number of problems, from dirty air filters to malfunctioning safety devices, like thermocouples, could be to blame. A professional technician can tell you for certain what’s wrong.
  • Strange sounds or odors. Really, anything out of the usual could indicate a problem with your heater. If it is grinding, squealing, or whining, or if it is emitting a burning or fuel odor during operation, contact professional repair technicians immediately. Just because the system is still running does not mean that it is running properly, after all.

Whenever you are dealing with a malfunctioning heater, no matter what the problem may be, resolving it promptly is the way to go. Putting necessary heating repairs on the back-burner will only leave you with more serious, potentially more costly problems down the road.
