Until a few years ago, homeowners whose property had no central ductwork had limited options for heating and air conditioning. Many older homes without ducts used electric wall and baseboard heaters, which are decades-old, costly, uncomfortable, and inefficient. The alternative—adding central ductwork to support a different HVAC system—was expensive and in some cases impossible.

The advent of the Mitsubishi ductless HVAC system gave these homes a better option. Now homeowners can install a ductless mini-split heat pump for a reasonable price and enjoy an effective heating and air conditioning system throughout their house.

Although ductless systems offer several benefits, they require the right installation team. California indoor Comfort Inc. specializes in ductless HVAC systems for a variety of homes. We also offer repair, replacement, and maintenance services in Fresno and Clovis.

Ducted vs. Ductless HVAC Systems

A ducted AC unit distributes cooled and heated air through a home using a network of ducts inside the ceilings and walls. On the other hand, a ductless unit (mini-split) system consists of smaller blowers (air handlers) in different rooms of the house. Installers mount the air handlers on a wall, and they blow air directly into the living space.

A ductless mini-split system is an excellent solution for:

  • Homes with no ductwork, including those that rely on baseboard heating and window ACs
  • Homes with room additions or outbuildings where installing or extending ductwork is not ideal
  • Spaces directly connected to unconditioned areas (attics, sunrooms, converted garages, unfinished basements) that expose ductwork to extreme temperatures

How Does a Mitsubishi Mini-Split System Work?

The HVAC industry considers traditional air conditioning systems "central split systems" because they are installed both outside and inside the home. A ductless Mitsubishi mini-split system works differently and more efficiently by separating the condenser and the air handler. The condenser is outdoors while installers mount multiple air handlers inside the home.

The primary components of a ductless mini-split system are:

  • An outdoor condensing unit
  • Multiple indoor air handlers/evaporators
  • Conduits with refrigerant tubing, condensate drain, and power cable

Installers run the conduit from the outdoor condenser unit to wall-mounted air handlers inside the home. Each of the air handlers can operate separately from the others, so you can shut off air handlers to rooms that aren’t in use and save money.

Why Choose Mitsubishi?

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. is a recognized world leader in the manufacture, marketing, and sales of electrical and electronic equipment, including HVAC systems. Below are some reasons to choose Mitsubishi:

  • A leading brand of ductless HVAC technology
  • Manufacturers high-quality HVAC systems as rated by contractors
  • Offers remote monitoring and control capability of its systems
  • Uses i-see sensors to adjust the temperature automatically
  • Can use a single condensing outdoor unit to support the cooling and heating of multiple rooms

Benefits of a Mitsubishi Ductless HVAC System

Besides the benefit of supporting older local homes that lack central ductwork, a Mitsubishi mini-split HVAC system offers other benefits.

  • Instant heat and cold: The HVAC units’ indoor wall-mounted handlers blow out air after reaching the temperature you set. Therefore, they instantly warm or cool the air in a room. They have adjustable, angled swing slats that direct air throughout the entire space.
  • Quiet comfort: A Mitsubishi mini-split HVAC system’s AC compressor sits outside the home, so the unit operates quieter than your refrigerator.
  • Zone control: A mini-split AC system allows you to install air handlers in multiple locations for zone control, enabling you to control the temperature in different rooms separately.
  • Excellent filtration systems: The ductless AC has filters that capture dust, odors, pollen, pet dander, and other allergens to help maintain optimal air quality inside your home. Additionally, the filters are reusable and washable and last for up to ten years.
  • Flexibility: A ductless system is small, so you can have them installed in places where bigger units won’t fit.
  • Allow fast installation with minimal interruption: Installing central air ducts to your Fresno home can take several weeks to complete and requires construction work. Since ductless AC systems need no major renovations or construction, they’re fast to install.
