Is a Ductless System Right for Me?

ductless-acIf you are looking for a way to condense and save this year, consider going ductless! Ductless systems serve as a singular alternative to owning both an air conditioner and a heater. For many homeowners across California, ductless systems, also known as ductless mini-splits, are becoming a preferred option for their efficiency and ability to provide year-round comfort.

We understand that choosing the right HVAC system for your home might seem like a daunting task, as there are so many great options to choose from. For this reason, we recommend speaking with a trained professional before making any final decisions. Not all homes are suitable for ductless systems, so it is important to be aware of your individual circumstances before your purchase a new system. Our expert technicians at California Indoor Comfort Inc can determine if a ductless system is right for you. To learn more about the many benefits of installing a ductless system, keep reading below.

What is a ductless system? How does it work?

As its name implies, a ductless system is a heating/cooling system that does not rely on a network of ducts. Instead, it utilizes one outdoor condenser unit which is connected via refrigerant lines to one or more air handlers that are installed throughout the home.

A ductless system works much like a traditional air conditioner, moving heat from one location to another. A reversing valve is all that is needed to reverse the flow of refrigerant allowing for cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. To cool the home, indoor heat is absorbed and moved outside, and to heat the home, heat is absorbed from outside and moved indoors.

What are the benefits?

Versatility

A ductless system is able to both heat and cool your home, allowing for year-round comfort. Just by flipping a switch, the system can switch from “cooling mode” to “heating mode”, making them a great alternative to owning both a heater and an air conditioner.

Convenient installation

Installing ductwork can be expensive, difficult, and quite invasive depending on the layout of your home. Some homes might not even have the space for ductwork, so a ductless system might be the best solution. Installing a ductless system is less invasive, cheaper, and can be completed in as little as one day.

Cost Effective

When you eliminate the need for two different HVAC systems you will end up saving a lot of money on repair, maintenance, and replacement services. You will no longer have to worry about scheduling air conditioning and heating repair in Clovis, CA for two different systems. Servicing one system is a lot more affordable than taking care of two.

Energy Efficient

Ductless systems operate on less power than other systems due to their small and simple design. Plus, homeowners have ultimate control of the temperature of the air going into each room, thus increasing efficiency.

Since ductless systems don’t have ducts, they avoid the energy losses associated with duct leaks, which can account for 20% of energy loss. When you go ductless, you’ll save a lot of money on your monthly heating and cooling bills.
