Tips for Better Heating and Cooling Efficiency

hot-and-cold-homesIt does not matter if you are talking about the hottest day of the summer season, or the coldest of winter nights. It is vitally important that you are able to keep your home comfortable throughout the entire year. However,  you should not be willing to drain your budget in order to do so. If your energy costs are out of control, these tips to help you boost heating and cooling efficiency are just what you’re  looking for.

Now, these tips are not going to somehow raise the bar in terms of what your HVAC systems are capable of as far as energy efficiency goes. What they can do, however,  is help you to get the most efficient performance possible from the heater and AC in question. Our Fresno, CA HVAC professionals are happy to answer any questions that you may have.  Feel free to ask them, and dial our number when you need any HVAC services in the area.

Do You Have Ceiling Fans?

If so, then remember that they are not just there for decoration. While most homeowners realize this, fewer realize that they are not just there for use in the summertime, either! You see, you can reverse the direction in which your ceiling fans rotate with the simple flip of a little switch on the fixture itself. Why would one want to do so?

Well, in the summer, the ceiling fan does not actually cool the air. Instead, it helps to distribute cooled air throughout the house. By reversing its direction of rotation in the winter, so that it spins clockwise, you can help to force heated air trapped at the ceiling back down into the living space where it will do the most good for you. This helps to take some strain off of your HVAC systems.

Do You Have Unwanted Heat Gain or Loss?

Today’s homes tend to be sealed up pretty tightly, which is a great way in which to prevent this problem. However, many homes develop air leaks over time, or the natural ventilation in their thermal envelopes is just too much. In some cases, the insulation installed to prevent unwanted heat transfer has degraded, or is just of the wrong R-value.

Whatever the case, taking steps to reduce this heat gain/loss via weather stripping, air sealing, and insulation upgrades is a great way to boost the efficiency with which you heat and cool your home. After all, even the most efficient HVAC system can’t operate efficiently when its hard work is going right out the window!

Do You Schedule Annual Maintenance?

If not, then there really is no mystery as to why your HVAC systems are coming up short on efficiency. Chances are, in fact, that your system is not functioning as reliably or effectively as they should, either. The only way in which to truly get the best from your HVAC systems is with routine maintenance.

Check out the energy efficiency upgrades that we have to offer, and inquire about our maintenance program. Working with our team means that you’ll be able to keep more money in the bank even as you live more comfortably.
